INtensions Review for the iPhone or iPod Touch

January 22, 2010

Here’s another interesting app review that requires a bit of logic and the use of your brain to outwit your opponent.  INtensions is available for 59p currently on the iTunes App store and is another one from LambdaMu games.  It is essentially a single/multi player experience of tact where you must choose the highest non-tied number every time to win points.  If more than one player (out of 3 opponents) choose the same number then neither of them win anything and the next person with the highest number could gain points.  It will take a couple of times of learn but once you get it going you’ll understand it in no time!

It’s quite satisfying when you start to beat the computer however it is even better when you’re beating real people and that is where this app shines best. Practice is good on the single player mode but the multiplayer is where it’s really at!  You can have up to 3 opponents and after choosing your own avatar you are all ready to go.  There are a preset selection of avatars however maybe it would have been nice to be able to choose one of your images from your photo roll so as to give it a bit more customisation.  This could make it clearer in multiplayer games at a glance but is more cosmetic than actually improving the game. While focusing on the looks, INtensions provides a clear user interface, maybe too clear.  It is easy to navigate yet it feels a bit bland and requires maybe a splash of colour or alternating backgrounds.  Potentially another small game would increase the replay value so it mixes it up a bit but definitely something to brighten up and enhance the experience would be welcomed.

So INtension is a real interesting game and when played with mates can prove exciting but it fell short in the single player mode and overall feels slightly cosmetically unpolished, so maybe with some more colours and sound effects the game would attract attention much longer!
