BurnBall for the iPhone or iPod Touch Review
Normally this game idea would seem a bit loose but for only 59p it’s actually addictive and fun! The basic premise is to cut off enemies and help save the world from the perils of Evil Dr Gray and bring back colour. (I know it’s a weird storyline) But nonetheless it does become challenging after the first few levels and will make your breaks fly by!
So the basic idea is to save 75% of the grey area in the middle of the screen to turn it to colour to advance to the next level. The great thing is the movement of your character (Roy) where you tilt the iPhone or iPod Touch left/right/forward/backward depending on where you want him to go. The sensitivity seems just right and I congratulate the developer as there haven’t been any moments I’ve had when my character deviated from my planned path -- it just feels so natural. Obviously you need to avoid enemies not only hitting you but also your travelling lines as you strive to cut across the grey darkness but as the levels progress so does the amount and intelligence of your foes.
It does seem pretty easy at first but even on the “Easy” difficulty it ramps up pretty quickly and becomes challenging which is nice in game as you don’t want to spend money and then breeze through every level. I haven’t even tried the infamous “OMG” difficulty yet but there is some substantial replay value here if you enjoy it. My only complaint would be the lack of many power ups but then to be honest they’re not pivotal to the success of the game and are really just an added extra but we can always demand more!
Overall all I’ve found BurnBall to be a very smooth, clean, fun experience and the time that the developer Tim Haines took for the comic strips and graphics definitely shows. It’s a nice touch that isn’t seen in many applications and in my eyes increases the value of entertainment. So if you’re after another game to fill your breaks or maybe that something different BurnBall may be for you.
